Hide Your Life Away included in university curriculum
Hide Your Life Away is being included in the course readings for a Canadian Literature class at the University of Prince Edward Island!
ENGLISH 425: Advanced Studies in Canadian Literature
Survival in the Urban Wilderness
Instructor: Greg Doran
September 2009
What does urban mean to you? What is the urban Canadian experience? What is Urban Canadian literature? This course will explore, and attempt to answer, these and many more questions. As well, the course will attempt to place Urban Canadian Literature into a larger Canadian literary context. To help define that context, the works on the course, which will include fiction, poetry, and drama, will be viewed through the lens of Atwood’s critical work Survival. While Atwood’s focus was on literature set in the Canadian wilderness, it will serve to help explore the evolving urban wilderness.
Texts to be read will include How Insensitive (Russell Smith), Stanley Park (Timothy Taylor), Kingsway (Michael Turner), Coyote City (Daniel David Moses), Courage My Love (Sara Dearing), The Betrayer (Michael Hennessy), Hide Your Life Away (Carol Little), and others to be determined.
